This describes how to update RealPC 1.0, 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.3, 1.0.4 or 1.0.5 for Power Macintosh to version 1.0.9.
Version 1.0.9 provides support for Mac OS 9.
Other new features include:
* Support for Windows 98 2nd Edition if you install it.
* Enhanced USB floppy support.
* The latest version of the Hard Disk Expander.
* A number of bug fixes and minor improvements.
Update instructions:
1. Download the RealPC Update and Upgrade Disk and copy them to the RealPC folder on your Macintosh.
2. Select OK when prompted to overwrite the existing RealPC Upgrade Disk or the RealPC Update file.
3. Double-click RealPC Update.
4. In the dialog box, select the RealPC file, and then click Update. Your original RealPC file is then renamed Old RealPC, and a new file named RealPC will be created.
5. RealPC has now been updated and is ready to use.
Using USB Floppy Drives
The Imation SuperDisk, Newer Technologies uDrive and YEData USB floppy drives are supported for read and write access but not for formatting. A floppy disk item will only appear in the RealPC eject menu if there is a disk in the drive when RealPC starts. Alternatively, eject the floppy with the standard key combinations Command-Shift-1 or Command-Shift-2 (hold down all keys at the same time).
Setting up SCSI Devices
When setting up SCSI devices you no longer need to rename the ISLCDROM.PDR CD driver as described in the "Setting up CD-ROM drives and SCSI devices" section in the RealPC User's Guide. This has the benefit of maintaining access to non-SCSI CD drives when SCSI is configured.
FAT32 Support
Windows 98 FAT32 is supported by RealPC but is not supported by the Hard Disk Expander utility.
Version and Serial Number Information
This version will run identically to your old version, but with the added features described above. The new version number is RealPC 1.0.9. The serial number for RealPC 1.0.9 is the same as for your old copy.
